Taking Care of your New Tattoo
1. Take off the bandage in 2 to 12 hours. Depending on what time of day you received your tattoo, you can leave the bandage on overnight. If you have plastic wrap, ointment, and tape, you can clean and re-bandage the tattoo for the first night. Follow the instructions below.
2. Wash the tattoo thoroughly with mild soap and water. Be careful to wash away all of the blood.
3. Do not re-bandage after the first night!
4. Apply ointment. We recommend Vaseline.
5. For three (3) days, be sure that your new tattoo is kept very clean and apply Vaseline every hour if possible. Do not allow your tattoo to dry out yet. If a rash occurs, discontinue using the ointment.
6. During the first 3 days, your tattoo may try to scab. It won’t be able to if you don’t allow blood to dry on it and if you use your ointment frequently. If a scab does form, do not pick at it, but allow it to heal on its own.
7. After the initial 3 days, quit using the ointment and switch to lotion. Use lotion for about 2 weeks.
8. Your tattoo will go through a peeling stage. This is normal.
9. Do not swim or soak the tattoo in water for 2 weeks. Keep it out of the sun for 2 weeks.
10. Tattoo care is your responsibility. The care it receives in the first 2 weeks will effect the appearance. Use your head!
11. Although your tattoo will appear healed in about 2 weeks, it is not completely healed for 6 weeks. At that time, if it has had color loss, call and schedule an appointment for a touch up.
